Conditioner use?

I never have used conditioner before. My hair is fine and limp, and the conditioner’s always make it feel gummy and it won’t hold any curl. Now that I’ve colored my hair, it’s tangle-y. What can I do?

Switch Shampoos?

I’ve always heard that you should "rotate" shampoos…that by using the same shampoo the hair will get used to it and not do as well. Is this true:

Shampooing and thinning hair

My friend has cancer and is recovering from chemotherapy. She’s lost her hair, and rather than use shampoo (there’s no hair there to wash!), she’s begun using her regular shower soap. Is this wise?

I hate it when my roots are showing!

I want to start coloring my hair. It’s beginning to gray now. But I’m afraid if I don’t like it, I’ll be stuck with that awful line of “growing out color”. Isn’t there any color that doesn’t leave a line if I don’t like it?

Highlight VS Color?

I’m confused...my former stylist gave me highlights using a peroxide activating agent. Now, my new stylist says hers is much better because it uses an “enzyme developer” and is less damaging to the hair. BUT, she insisted I allow her to recolor all my hair because she couldn’t put her “enzyme” over my “bleached” hair without causing breakage. Is this true, or did she just want more of my money?

Color & perms

I have highlighted hair, and I really like the “mussed” look, but my hair is so straight! I want a perm, but my stylist refuses to give me a perm. She says it would be too damaging. Why won’t she give me what I want? I AM the customer, after all

Capping or foiling?

I have highlighted hair. My stylist used to use the “cap” method, and while I didn’t really like the hair being “pulled”, it was effective and worked well. Now, my stylist prefers to do the “foiling” method. While I don’t miss the “pulling”, it really wasn’t all that bad, and the foils are so much more expensive. Why?

Lightening, toning, highlighting

In my former salon, when they highlighted my hair, they would put the “lightening agent” on, put me under the dryer, wash it out and I would be done. Now, in my new salon, they follow the same routine, but then also put what they call a “toning agent” on my hair before finishing the service. Is one better than the other? I like the color better now, but don’t understand the different “highlighting” services.

Cut wet or dry?

It used to be, when I went for my haircut, my stylist would just cut my hair and let me leave. The cost was $12. Now, however, she insists on shampooing my hair before cutting and then dries and styles it. Now she charges $20. Is this fair?

Cut before or after perm?

My hairdresser and I always have a discussion about whether to cut my hair before my perm or after it. My mother always insisted her hairdresser cut the hair first. She said that by cutting the hair after the perm, they would cut the perm out. My hairdresser does what I ask, but she really doesn’t like it. What’s the right thing to do?

Corrective Perms

My mother gave me a perm. She’s done this for years, but this time, the curl isn’t even. I asked my stylist to give me a perm over this one to correct the uneven curl. She’s willing to try, but she insists I sign “waiver” relieving her of responsibility if anything happens to my hair. I’m scared now.

Corrective Color?

I colored my hair at home, myself. It didn’t turn out like the picture on the box. When I called my stylist, they said yes, they could probably help, but the price they quoted was double the cost of a regular color. Why?
